Farm Tours in Te Anau and Manapouri, Fiordland

Te Anau and Manapouri are the service towns for our hard-working farming community. Farms are mainly deer, sheep and cattle, and some are very large indeed, for example the 8,800 hectare station owned by the Chartres family at Te Anau Downs, north of Te Anau on the Milford Road to Milford Sound. A whopping 20km of the Milford Road borders their land. In fact, the Milford Road as far as the station was pioneered by the Chartres family, which has owned this station since 1925. John Chartres started building the road because he was tired of using the boat to transport wool and stock back to Te Anau.

There are a few terrific farms around Te Anau and Manapouri offering tours and the chance to see sheep shearing, feed young animals, and other farm experiences. Browse the list below.
