From Te Anau, there are many companies offering guided coach tours to Milford Sound, stopping along the Milford Road for photo opportunities at many beautiful spots along the way. This is a relaxing and comfortable way to travel the Milford Road in comfort and company, with commentary from the guides.
Most trips combine the coach tour with a cruise on Milford Sound, but if you don't want to include this option you can still enjoy a beautiful day touring the Milford Road.
Many coach tours to Milford Sound are marketed as starting from Queenstown. However, it is much better to start your journey in Te Anau, as travelling all the way from Queenstown means a very long and tiring day.
Some coaches are very large and comfortable with huge windows offering panoramic views of the mountains either side of the Milford road.
