Aims of the site
This site aims to help Te Anau and Manapouri to thrive and increase community pride by:
1. Above all, celebrating our beautiful towns, our active community, and our world-famous wilderness, and the values associated with these things, namely respect for our environment, towns, and people. By celebrating these things we can increase community pride.
2. Promoting our community events to community members, other New Zealanders, and visitors from overseas.
3. Promoting our community clubs, businesses and forums to community members and to visitors so they can join in too.
4. Promoting our two awesome lakes, our mountains, and our endangered birds, particularly the takahe, to visitors and community members, to encourage longer visits from visitors and improved community engagement and respect for our wilderness.
5. Promoting Te Anau and Manapouri as vibrant towns, to help our shops and services to thrive. Te Anau and Manapouri are the natural place to stay for visitors wishing to visit Fiordland, particularly Milford Sound and the Great Walks.
About the people behind this site
Martin Sliva (pictured left) lives in Te Anau and takes amazing photographs of Fiordland. His photographs have appeared on national tv weather reports with regularity.
Mary Williams (pictured right) lives in Te Anau and is an experienced journalist and professional writer. She also loves to tramp and is a director of Bushbash, a Fiordland off-track expedition company.
Andrew Hill (middle) loves to kayak through Fiordland wilderness, but when he's not paddling, he works alongside Sue Hollows, another local, carrying out administration functions for this website including liaising with sponsors. Andrew has a background in hotel management and both Andrew and Sue have a background in administration.
Together Martin, Mary and Andrew are Fiordland Community Promotion Ltd.
But it's not just about us. We couldn't do it without the support of the community, providing us with information for the site and their enthusiasm for its success. Here's just one of the many supportive comments we have received:
"I love this website. It's great to see a website for our community as well as our visitors. teanau.net.nz reminds me just how lucky I am to live here. It also made me think that however fabulous the environment (and it is FABULOUS, as the amazing photos on teanau.net.nz testify), people need to connect with people, and this beautiful website acts as a warm invitation to visitors and locals alike. Thank you Mary, Andrew and Martin!"
